Schoolchildren Get Help from Donations

There have been a lot of programs in place around the country that have been donating items to children as an outreach program that has been part of efforts by the Nebraska Department of Education to help children who are homeless obtain schooling.  The school district recently came into possession of a number of childrens backpacks non perishable foods and school supplies that would be distributed to needy kids in the area.  One of the employees at the department of education applied for aid from a state based charity called the Homeless Education and Literacy Program that was operated by a group called Feed the Children that was based in Oklahoma City.

This year marks the third year that the charitable group has worked to obtain school supplies for students who are homeless and it would seem that the process of donating items has gotten more streamlined each year that it has been in existence.  The first year the program simply used a giant truck to unload all the supplies in Lincoln, Nebraska.  The second year the program used a pickup truck to take the items to different school districts around the state.

Those two options work fairly time consuming and so this year there were just a few major drop off sites selected which got the supplies to their destinations much more swiftly.  While earlier efforts had required a lot of manual labor to get the job done, donating this year was aided by the arrival of a forklift that allowed for a much faster response time.
