March 25th, 2011

For some of us, going to the furniture store is overwhelming, especially when you are dealing with the warehouse sized ones that give you dozens of options no matter what you are looking for. The thing is, unless you are interested in design and you know what goes with what, the furniture store is kind of like a giant maze of options, with no real answers. Say you are heading there to put together a home office for yourself. You know that you need a desk, a chair, and some storage shelving, but with so many different options on the floor, how the heck do you choose the right one? The key is to do your research beforehand and not just go into the store without any ideas.

Let’s start with the chair. What do you want out of an office chair? When you are sitting on something for at least eight hours a day, you want to make sure that you pick something that is comfortable. In fact, you don’t even want to think about your chair throughout the day, which means that you office furniture that just kind of blends into your workday. You want your chair to give you the support that you need and allow you to sit for long times without feeling like you need to constantly readjust how you are sitting.

In terms of the office desk furniture, you want a desk that has a good amount of drawers for storage, as well as a large top as a workspace. While it may seem nice to have all the shelving built into the desktop, if it takes away from the area that you have to work then just buy the shelving separate. Your computer is already going to take up enough room, you need to make sure that you have room for your files, a phone, and other accessories that you are going to need throughout the day.

If you need shevling for storage then you need to make sure that you check whether getting a pre made storage shelf, or installing your own shelving makes more sense. You can find more information by looking into hon office furniture online.
