Davison-Paxon Edition, 1939

FrontCovers.jpg (4685 bytes)

In 1939 Macmillan published this two-volume set with a slipcase (not pictured), which was sold exclusively in Atlanta's Davison-Paxon department store. At the time, its $7.50 price tag was considered rather steep. Whether it was due to the steep price or the overall unattractiveness of the binding, this edition did not sell well.

The slipcase was just slightly too small for the books, and as a result, many were damaged and ultimately discarded.

Production of this edition was limited to 1,000, making it one of the rerest of the collectible editions of Gone With the Wind.
